Anybody remember
Curious George? My middle daughter
Raewyn is very like curious George.
Raewyn simply can’t resist things like closed drawers. I on the other hand, am scared of what I
would find. I have never read my
daughters’ diaries or rifled through their cupboards. As a parent I think there is a lot I would
rather not know. Yip “keep my head
firmly stuck in the sand parenting” style works for me.
Anyway our very own Curious
George has gotten herself into a lot of awkward situations with her
curiosity. She once set off the alarm
at her work because she wondered if she could crack the safe code. Were it anybody else you would think thief,
but there is the parody Raewyn would never take anybody else’s stuff.
In 2006 the roof of the house we were renting, blew right off.
For a while we had to move into my sister’s house. Carmen my eldest daughter lived with my
sister. She was about to go away and
Raewyn was going to stay in her bedroom.
I don’t know who came
up with the Evil Plan but we decided to tease our Curious George. The night before Carmen left she wrote a
diary. She spoke about how she fell
pregnant and had an abortion. How she
was stealing money from me to fuel her cocaine habit. I am sure you are getting the picture. Carmen “hid” the diary in her top drawer.
For the next few
months we speculated whether Raewyn had read the diary or not. We decided she had not because surely she
would confide in one of us. We forgot
about it.
Four years , yes FOUR
YEARS later, Carmen was out with her
boyfriend and most of the family were sitting
in the lounge when Raewyn said, “Mom, I
know Carmen is fine now but she was stealing your money years ago....”
At this point my
sister and I looked at each other and said simultaneously, “The diary.”
Have you heard about Yeah Write? I am taking part in their open challenge.

I love your family!
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh! You guys are SO bad.
ReplyDeleteTotally something I would have done to my younger sister! We are 41 and 39 and I still love torturing her!
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness!
ReplyDeleteLOL that is hilarious! The safe cracking thing is so me! It doesn't hurt to be curious ;)
ReplyDeleteCarmen and Raewyn are a year and 14 months apart and boy they can fight.
ReplyDeleteWhy? Ha ha thanks dear. Love yours too.
ReplyDeleteI think my eldest daughter gets all the bad credit for writing that diary.
ReplyDeleteYip strange bunch my family.
ReplyDeleteI was so relieved that she was not arrested.
ReplyDeleteNice lol, and totally impressive that she kept it to herself all those years!
ReplyDeleteSo funny, I guess it's good that it wasn't true!! She wasn't going to save anyone clearly!! Lol
ReplyDeleteHaha! Wow, I can't believe she kept it to herself all those years! Impressive for her age.
ReplyDeleteThat is too funny!
ReplyDeleteHahhahahah you guys are awesome for setting her up like that.
ReplyDeleteWow, she kept the secret of the diary that long!? Now that's loyalty! (My mom was a single mom!)
ReplyDeleteShe really tortured herself for those years. My fault I hate tattle tales and it rubbed off on my daughters.
ReplyDeleteYip but can you imagine all those years she was watching her sister with concern and wondering if she should speak to anybody.
ReplyDeleteYes it was although Raewyn obviously does not see the funny side but I think she is less likely to poke into people's things.
ReplyDeleteI remember wondering if a diary written in one night would be convincing enough. Carmen said that she even corresponded her entries to things that happened to make it more convincing.
ReplyDeleteThat's a whole lot of work for a prank - hand writing a diary. Good to find out in the end it was successful.
ReplyDeleteI think it was because of her age as she was a teen, she was probably torn between the sister code of not telling and her sister's safety and the fact that she had pried.
ReplyDeleteYes Carmen loves to write I think that it was so believable is credit to her writing skills.
ReplyDeleteI don't miss the single Mom days. We are all amazed that she kept it to herself for all those years.
ReplyDeleteWow four years! I wonder what was going through her mind all that time. So funny.
ReplyDeleteoh WOW!!! of all things to remember and tattle on, she picks the $$.
ReplyDeleteFunny story! Quite the secret keeper you've got there!!
ReplyDeleteThat. Is. Awesome.
ReplyDeleteNobody can bring sweet justice like a sister. Erin
ReplyDeleteWhen I was a kid, I called him "Curious The George."
ReplyDeleteGreat post!
Haha! How funny that she waited til there was a new boyfriend to bring it up :)
ReplyDeletelol ... the things that you find out in time ... :) ... at least you remembered rather than taking her seriously ;)
ReplyDeleteSo how long had she been waiting for the opportunity to bring THAT up? Ellen
ReplyDeleteRaewyn is a strange being we all wonder what goes on in her mind.
ReplyDeleteIt was a moment when we were all reminiscing, I think she thought she would start with the least bad thing to spare me the shock.
ReplyDeleteYip she is
ReplyDeleteYeah Carmen sure taught Raewyn a hard lesson
ReplyDeleteActually no the new Carmen and her boyfriend were not home. Jason knew all about the diary.
ReplyDeleteI had not thought about it for years but I immediately knew what she was talking about.
ReplyDeleteI wonder when she decided it was time to tell me and how long it took to build up the nerve.
ReplyDeleteAwesome. Because you just know that had been EATING away at her!
ReplyDeleteI felt really bad it was supposed to teach her a little lesson not torture her for years.
