The Worst Prank Ever

Anybody remember Curious George?  My middle daughter Raewyn is very like curious George.  Raewyn simply can’t resist things like closed drawers.  I on the other hand, am scared of what I would find.  I have never read my daughters’ diaries or rifled through their cupboards.  As a parent I think there is a lot I would rather not know.  Yip “keep my head firmly stuck in the sand parenting” style works for me.

Anyway our very own Curious George has gotten herself into a lot of awkward situations with her curiosity.  She once set off the alarm at her work because she wondered if she could crack the safe code.  Were it anybody else you would think thief, but there is the parody Raewyn would never take anybody else’s stuff.
In 2006 the roof of the house we were renting, blew right off.  For a while we had to move into my sister’s house.  Carmen my eldest daughter lived with my sister.  She was about to go away and Raewyn was going to stay in her bedroom.

I don’t know who came up with the Evil Plan but we decided to tease our Curious George.  The night before Carmen left she wrote a diary.  She spoke about how she fell pregnant and had an abortion.  How she was stealing money from me to fuel her cocaine habit.  I am sure you are getting the picture.  Carmen “hid” the diary in her top drawer.

For the next few months we speculated whether Raewyn had read the diary or not.  We decided she had not because surely she would confide in one of us.  We forgot about it.

Four years , yes FOUR YEARS  later, Carmen was out with her boyfriend and  most of the family were sitting in the lounge when Raewyn said,  “Mom, I know Carmen is fine now but she was stealing your money years ago....”

At this point my sister and I looked at each other and said simultaneously, “The diary.”

Have you heard about Yeah Write?  I am taking part in their open challenge.

  15. She really tortured herself for those years.  My fault I hate tattle tales and it rubbed off on my daughters.

  16. Yip but can you imagine all those years she was watching her sister with concern and wondering if she should speak to anybody.

  17. Yes it was although Raewyn obviously does not see the funny side but I think she is less likely to poke into people's things.

  18. I remember wondering if a diary written in one night would be convincing enough.  Carmen said that she even corresponded her entries to things that happened to make it more convincing.

  19. That's a whole lot of work for a prank - hand writing a diary. Good to find out in the end it was successful.

  20. I think it was because of her age as she was a teen, she was probably torn between the sister code of not telling and her sister's safety and the fact that she had pried.

  21. Yes Carmen loves to write I think that it was so believable is credit to her writing skills.

  32. It was a moment when we were all reminiscing, I think she thought she would start with the least bad thing to spare me the shock.

  33. Yeah Carmen sure taught Raewyn a hard lesson

  34. Actually no the new Carmen and her boyfriend were not home.  Jason knew all about the diary.

  36. I wonder when she decided it was time to tell me and how long it took to build up the nerve.
